From Specific to Sophisticated: Teaching Evidence and First Drafts in AP® Lang
February 17 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm CST
Two of the most persistent challenges in AP® Lang are helping students choose evidence (Row B) and guiding them toward sophistication (Row C). This session reframes both. Drawing on insights from the 2025 AP® Reading, we’ll consider why specificity—not sophistication—is the real key to strong evidence, and how honoring first drafts creates the conditions for authentic rhetorical moves. Teachers will leave with practical strategies to shift how they talk about evidence, how they respond to drafts, and how they help students write with greater confidence. The conversation will connect classroom practice with rubric expectations, offering clarity for both teachers and students.
