July 27 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am CDT

$25.00

To be ready for high school English, including advanced and college prep courses, students must have extensive experience with complex texts. These texts should come from nineteenth century to contemporary time periods and should include both informational and imaginative writings. Diverse complex texts are at the center of a challenging ELA curriculum committed to a college readiness program. This session will help participants experience integrated text sets that will best prepare students for close reading and critical thinking success.

Presentation Leader: Justin Overacker

Justin is a zany and gregarious eleven-year-educator, who currently teaches sophomore English at Wossman High School, an inner-city, Title I school in northeast Louisiana. Mr. O, as his students call him, also serves his district as an ELA Content Leader, a Mentor Teacher, a Teacher Leader, and resident wordsmith aficionado. A lover of YA and realistic fiction, Justin adores the extracurricular professional fun required with his involvement with his state’s assessment committee and the International Literacy Association’s Adolescent Literacy Committee. Justin is a nominee for 2020 Louisiana State Teacher of the Year.
