TAKS Reading and Writing
TAKS Reading and Writing resource guides for high school offer teachers the opportunity to reinforce important skills while seamlessly integrating test preparation. Each guide includes practices in the TAKS style and format with correlations to the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
TAKS Reading guides include:
- 6 selected passages from the literary work, each followed by:
- 7-9 multiple-choice questions
- 2 open-ended question
- 1 writing prompt
- A complete triplet -- a passage from the literary work paired with a thematically-related nonfiction piece, and a visual/graphic, followed by
- Approximately 20 multiple-choice questions
- 3 open-ended questions
- 1 writing prompt
- Detailed answer explanations
- Correlations to the TEKS for all multiple-choice questions
- Charts for tracking student progress
TAKS Writing resource guides include:
- 6 student essays related to the literary work, followed by 10 multiple-choice editing questions for per essay
- 7 essay prompts related to the literary work
- Detailed answer explanations
- Correlations to the TEKS for all multple-choice questions
Six major skills are addressed in these writing guides: sentence structure and clarity, usage, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and organization/transition.
